Mayasa Abdul-Rahman is an associate attorney in the Orlando office of Blitch Westley Barrette, S.C., where she serves clients across the transportation and supply chain. As part of her practice, Mayasa counsels motor carriers, shippers, brokers, warehouses, freight-forwarders, ocean transportation intermediaries, insurance agents, and insurance providers on the matters that keep freight moving and businesses protected — the negotiation and execution of transportation contracts, regulatory compliance, corporate matters, management-side employment issues, insurance coverage questions, and insurance defense. Her work includes the defense and prosecution of cargo claims, coverage disputes, and business law disputes on behalf of the firm’s logistics clients.
Mayasa brings to the firm a broad civil litigation background developed across some of Florida’s most active defense practices. She has managed high-volume litigation caseloads through every phase — case evaluation, written discovery, depositions, examinations under oath, motion practice, mediation, and trial preparation — while working closely with clients, insurers, and claims professionals to evaluate exposure and shape litigation strategy. She regularly takes and defends depositions, negotiates favorable settlements, and analyzes jurisdictional issues, including the removal of qualifying state court actions to federal court on diversity and federal question grounds.
Before joining Blitch Westley Barrette, Mayasa defended insureds and businesses in automobile negligence, uninsured and underinsured motorist, and premises liability matters. She also defended hospitals, physicians, nurses, nursing homes, and other providers in medical malpractice litigation, handling complex claims from inception through trial. Her earlier practice spanned construction and design defect disputes — representing developers, general contractors, subcontractors, design professionals, and product manufacturers. Earlier in her career, she conducted document review in support of federal criminal fraud investigations for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Fraud Division. This range gives Mayasa a practical, exposure-focused perspective that serves the firm’s clients well as they confront risk in an industry defined by rising litigation costs and nuclear verdicts.
Mayasa earned her Juris Doctor, with a Certificate in Health Law, from Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law, and holds a bachelor’s degree in finance, with a minor in Criminal Justice, from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a licensed member of both the Florida Bar and the District of Columbia Bar.
